Successfully relocating a 120-year-old bottle tree
A 120-year-old bottle tree has found new roots at the entrance of New Acland Mine.
Read moreNew Acland Mine is an open-cut thermal coal mine located 27km north-west of Oakey in southeast Queensland. The mine has played a key role as an employer and economic contributor in the Darling Downs region since operations began in October 2002.
In 2022, the Queensland Government approved Stage 3 of the mine. Coal production is forecast to be five million tonnes per annum, with the projected life of the project approximately 12-15 years.
At the peak of construction, there will be around 600 people working on site, with a permanent operational workforce of about 400 people local to the Darling Downs.
Stage 3 extracted first coal in September 2023, with the first trainload leaving the Jondaryan Rail Loadout Facility in October 2023.
