Environmental management is an integral part of Bengalla’s operations.
We work to prevent and manage the potential and actual environmental impacts from our mining activities. This includes coal mining, coal handling and processing, construction and all the support services associated with our business.
We aim to take preventive action in preference to reactive correction and are continually working to improve our environmental performance.
Our success depends on the commitment from all employees and contractors of Bengalla’s operations. We work to prevent and manage the potential and actual environmental impacts from our mining activities.

We believe it is our responsibility to be a key partner in and with our local communities, investing money and time to support vital community organisations. And why wouldn’t we? They are our communities too. We contribute in a number of ways.
New Hope is committed to the rehabilitation of disturbed land across its operations and has rehabilitated almost 45% of its total mined land to date.
New Hope currently has two open cut mines, one in the Darling Downs and one in the Hunter Valley: New Acland, north of Oakey in Queensland, and Bengalla, west of Newcastle in New South Wales.
