Mining is a family affair for father, daughter duo Tim and Lucy Hoswell.

Tim is a Senior Mining Engineer at Bengalla Mining Company. His daughter, Lucy was recently awarded a Bengalla funded scholarship, which helps fund four years of university study and includes paid vacation work.

“I’m very proud of Lucy,” Tim said.

“She did extremely well in her HSC, got into university and secured this amazing scholarship at Bengalla.

“It’s very nice to be able to hop in the car each morning and come to work together. Fortunately, we’re not working in the same team, so when we come through the front doors in the morning, I turn left, and she turns right. We part ways, then at the end of the day we meet back up and hop in the car, where I get to hear what she’s been up to for most of the day.

“You lose track of your kids a little bit as they go through high school, but working together at Bengalla has been a great experience.

“You can’t really put a price on it. I never thought Lucy would pursue a career in mining, so catching up and carpooling each morning and afternoon is priceless.

“It’s a very special opportunity that I never thought I would get. I love it, it’s fantastic.”

Lucy also cherishes the opportunity to work at Bengalla alongside her dad.

“If anything, working with Dad has probably brought us closer together,” Lucy said.

“When I finished Year 12, I moved out of home, so coming to work with Dad every day is very nice. We get to spend some time together every week, which is great.

“I’m also very lucky because Dad drives. I just jump in the car, which is perfect because I don’t need any fuel money!”
