Cam Halfpenny

General Manager

Cam joined New Hope Group in 2016 as CEO of Bengalla Mining Company, later as GM Bengalla as New Hope Group increased their shareholding in Bengalla.

Cam has 39 years of global mining experience having worked for Rio Tinto in operational roles across Australia, Indonesia, United States of America and supporting Rio Tinto’s Productivity Improvement across their global operations including digital mining/processing applications.

He holds a Bachelor of Mining Engineering from the University of Queensland, MBA from Warwick University (UK), Graduate Diploma Applied Finance ASIC, Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and current NSW Mine Manager and OCE tickets.

Glenn Meyn

Mining Manager

Glenn joined New Hope Group in 2018 & is currently the Mining Manager at Bengalla.

Glenn’s experience includes 34 years in the Mining Industry working in various Maintenance & Production roles for Peabody & Rio Tinto.

Glenn was originally part of the Bengalla team in 1998 when it first started & is honoured to be back & part of the Bengalla Family again.

Kent Flaherty

Mine Maintenance, Engineering & Technology Manager

Kent joined the company in 2005 as an electrician and has worked through multiple leadership roles in the maintenance, engineering and Health & Safety areas, including Statutory Electrical Engineer.

Since 2025 Kent has fulfilled the Mine Maintenance, Engineering and Technology Manager role.

Kent is on the NSW Resource Regulators Electrical Engineering Certificate of Competency Examiners panel as well as the Standards Australia EL023 Electrical Equipment in Mines and Quarries Technical Committee.

Russell Hartin

CHPP Manager

Russell Joined the Bengalla team in 2001 and is currently in the role of CHPP, Logistics and Infrastructure Manager , with over 36 years in the mining sector across a wide variety of roles in both maintenance and production focused areas of the operation.

His team of skilled professionals and technicians deliver the results around the clock for the business across a wide scope of disciplines.

Russell holds a Diploma of Electrical Engineering and Open Cut Examiner qualification.

With strong ties to the local community being a life member of the Muswellbrook swimming club.

Anthony Raines

Logistics Manager

Anthony rejoined the company in 2025 and currently manages the Bengalla Logistics team. He brings 19 years’ experience across coal quality, logistics and marketing, spanning both thermal and coking coal operations in Queensland and New South Wales. His previous tenure at Bengalla included the role of Quality and Logistics Superintendent from 2011 to 2021.
Anthony leads a multidisciplinary team of logistics professionals with backgrounds in engineering, logistics, marketing, finance and electrical trades amongst others. The team is responsible for coordinating product delivery to customers, ensuring shipments are on time and meet specification requirements.
Anthony studied at the University of Southern Queensland, where he obtained qualifications in Business, International Business and Strategic Leadership

John Campbell

Technical Services and Bengalla Continuation Manager

John joined Bengalla in 2022 and currently manages the Technical Services team, after several years leading the Bengalla Growth Project and later the maintenance of the mining fleet including dragline, excavators, haul trucks and ancillary equipment.

John has previously held the Manager Technical Services role and the statutory Mining Engineering Manager role at Bengalla from 2015 to 2018 in a career spanning >20 years for companies including Rio Tinto, Thiess, Yancoal and New Hope Group.

John holds a Bachelor of Engineering Honours (Mining / Civil Engineering) from the University of Wollongong, a NSW Mining Engineering Manager Practising Certificate, is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is a member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and the Mine Managers Association of Australia.

Jonathan Lawler

Manager Human Resources And Training Manager

Jono joined Bengalla in 2017 and manages the people and training systems functions for Bengalla.

Jono brings 20 years’ experience in human resources, training, payroll and leadership roles spread across the mining, water utilities and manufacturing industries. Jono has spent almost 17 years in the mining industry including time with Rio Tinto Coal Australia working across operational sites in both NSW and QLD.

Jono holds Bachelor degrees in Business (Human Resources) and Commerce, along with post-graduate qualifications in Training and Development and Occupational Health & Safety.

Adam Freeman

Growth Project Manager

Adam started at Bengalla in 2009 and currently coordinates the Bengalla Growth Project and leads a team in the delivery of major projects across the site.

His previous roles at Bengalla were in engineering, operational leadership and business profitability following his transfer from Rio Tinto Iron Ore in 2009.

He holds Bachelor degrees in Mechatronics Engineering and Computer Science from UWA, and an MBA (Executive) from the AGSM and Chicago Booth.

Alex Vandervoort

Commercial Manager

Alex joined Bengalla in 2025 as Commercial Manager and oversees the company’s accounting and supply functions, including the warehouse, and is Company Secretary for Bengalla companies.

Alex has 18 years’ experience in the Australian resources industry, spanning mining consumables and coal logistics organisations and previously held roles at Bengalla from 2018 to 2020.

Alex holds Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) from the University of Newcastle and is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Proudly tracing 5 generations of family lineage to the coal industry, Alex is passionate about the economic and social benefit the industry brings to the global community.

Mathew Cooper

Health and Safety Manager

Mat joined the Bengalla team in 2025 as the Health and Safety Manager with extensive experience across large-scale open cut and underground coal operations in New South Wales.

With over a decade of experience in building safety systems, managing critical risks, leading safety teams and driving genuine cultural change in high-risk mining environments. Mat is a passionate advocate for mental health in the resources sector and is committed to mentoring the next generation of safety leaders and building environments where every team member goes home safe and healthy.

Mat holds qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety, Risk and Business Management. 

Fiona Hartin

Community Relations Specialist & PA to CEO

Fiona joined the Bengalla Team in 2018 and is in the role of Community Relations Specialist and PA to the General Manager.

Fiona’s experience includes 25 years as a Registered Nurse and holds a Bachelor of Nursing from The University of Newcastle.

She has also been involved with multiple clubs and organisations within the Muswellbrook Community and is a life member of the Muswellbrook Swimming Club.
