It’s been a very busy few months at Acland Pastoral Company (APC).
Approximately 1,600ha of cropping land has been used for cash crops.
Winter harvest:
- Wheat and barley grain – 2,650t
- Barley straw bales – 540 big square bales
Harvested and kept for drought proofing/own consumption:
- Barley and oaten hay – 500 big square bales
- Barley silage – 500t
APC is currently running 2,950 head of cattle, including 1,400 breeders (of which 430 are APC bred heifers), 650 backgrounders, with 900 calves to be branded in early 2024.
New Acland Mine approvals have impacted APC, with the property downsizing to accommodate Stage 3 and the affiliated environmental offsets.
More than 10km of internal and external fences have been replaced in the past few months. Black wattle and boxthorn control trials are underway to reclaim overgrown paddocks, while erosion repairs and preventative earthworks are being completed in some of the cultivation paddocks.
